Getting your job application ready
Fortunately the application process to apply for a physician job is very simple. All you need is a cover letter and a resume or curriculum vitae. There is no need to send your credentials, certificates or other documents at the time of application. Some employers, especially academic institutions will ask for name and addresses of your references. Very rarely they may request actual recommendation letters. That is unusual.
You can send your application by mail, fax or even email. While sending email documents always send them as attachments in .rtf format instead of .doc. It is also called the ‘rich text format’ (.rtf) and enables the recipient to open the document in almost any edition of Microsoft Word or even notepad.
Always email your application packet to yourself or a friend to see if there is any problem with the format of the resume. Such errors can look ugly showing up on the recipient side as line displacements, change of fonts etc. Never ever skip this simple quality control step before sending your application to prospective employers.
